Hilary Babcock, MD, MPH

Dr. Babcock has been at Barnes-Jewish Hospital and Washington University School of Medicine since 1994. She received her undergraduate degree from Brown University and her medical degree from the University of Texas Southwestern Medical Center at Dallas. After completing her residency, she served as medical chief resident at Barnes-Jewish Hospital for a year before starting her infectious disease fellowship. she completed her fellowship and joined the faculty in 2002. She completed a Masters Degree in Public Health from St. Louis University School of Public health in 2006.
Research Interests
Dr. Babcock's research interests include occupational exposures, and hospital epidemiology. She uses the BJC occupational health database to study risk factors and outcomes of needle-stick injuries, as well as the impact of newer safety devices on injury rates. She has also studied nosocomial infections such as ventilator-associated pneumonia, and influenza in hospitalized patients, including risk factors and the utility of standard case definitions in this population. She also works with the Infection Control Committee to address ongoing issues in the hospital as they arise.
